Friday’s News: Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa interview; the O’Laughing ladies; ratings and TV news

Wrapping up the week’s Hawaii Five-0 News

Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa hits Hawaii Five-0

Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa made his first appearance this past Monday night on Hawaii Five-0 as Hiro Noshimuri, the secret Yakuza boss of Hawaii.  While he has a long and strong track record of film and television appearances, I’ll have to say that this great actor has perfected the art of the bad guy.  Granted, my basis for judgment is the fact that he played a mean husband in “Picture Bride” and a terrifying martial artist in “Mortal Kombat”.  He starred as Shang Tsung in that movie, and his quote “YOUR SOUL IS MINE!” struck fear in the hearts of many teenagers 20 years ago.  Fast forward to 2011 in the episode “Ke Kinohi”, Cary plays the self assured but definitely sinister business mogul and Yakuza boss, Hiro Noshimuri.

Cary has a very strong tie to Hawaii.  His father was born and raised here, and they lived here for a short while during one of his father’s military rotations through Hawaii.  Incidentally, Cary starred as Captain Terry Harada of the short lived NBC police procedural “Hawaii” .

Mary Wunsch Greer had the pleasure of interviewing Cary about his Hawaii Five-0 experience, featured on The Five0’s blog.  Mary also managed to arrange for Cary to tweet live during the Hawaii showing of “Ke Kinohi”.  On twitter, he was gracious enough to respond personally to fan comments and questions during the show.  You can follow him at @CHTagawa,  and by the amount that he’s tweeted, I don’t think he can pry himself away from his keyboard just yet. 😉

Chatter on twitter and the internet after the episode definitely showed that fans wanted to see more of Hiro!

Update: Cary will be leading a One Day Only Workshop sponsored by the Hawai’i Actors Network on Jan. 8th!

The Ladies of O’Laughing Press

The ladies of OLP give us the ins and outs of oral lex(icon) and proper Hawaii Five-0 verbiage.  Check out the new slang that our favorite show is fostering.

I can see by the aneurysm face you’re giving me that you have no idea what I’m talking about, so check out the link. 😉

Hawaii Five-0 dominates the ratings again

Hawaii Five-0’s 10.9 million viewers edged ABC’s Castle’s 9.7 million viewers on Monday.  The ratings of the show have been consistently good…so good that CBS has moved a brand new episode into the highly coveted post AFC championship game slot on Sunday night, January 23rd.

So the upcoming Hawaii Five-0 schedule is:

1/10 “Ko’olauloa” (rerun)
1/17 “He Kane Hewa’ole”
1/23  “E Malama” (?)
1/24 “Mana’o” (rerun)

WOW do there WILL be a show on the 23rd AND the 24th??? Fantastic! I don’t care if the 24th is a re-run. Just to see them 2 nights in a row is wonderful! Finally CBS is using their brains!

  2. hawaiiobsessed says:

Cary makes a very believable, sinister and nightmare inducing villian! I wonder what the connection between him, Wo Fat and Hesse is? Looking forward to seeing more of Wo Fat! The new Hawaii Five-0 slang is funny!

  3. jlopie (Lynnette) says:

Just read the new Hawaii 5-0 slang! Luv it! I’ve already (inadvertantly) incorporated some of these phrases into my everyday speech – with many “huh?” moments from friends and family. Glad to know there are some people out there that would understand me immediately! The O’Laughing ladies are great fun!

  4. MyMcG says:

Sinister is a great word to describe Hiro… At lunch when Steve threatens that no amount of money or power can save him, and he spits back, “From what?” *shudder* It totally gave me chills. So far I’m having a hard time taking Wo Fat seriously because I only just see the Iron Chef America dude. I’m sure he will show his true creepy nature soon enough. I’m also looking forward to finding out how the three (Hesse, Wo Fat, Hiro Noshimuri) are related.
