Terry O’Quinn to join Hawaii Five-0; Lenkov and Kim comment

Losties will rejoice upon hearing the news of Terry O’Quinn joining the cast of Hawaii Five-0 for season 2.  He definitely has the acting range of both playing a hero (as John Locke) and as a villain (as the reincarnated Man In Black), so I’m definitely excited to see what his character will have in store for the show.  The question is which side does he fall on…is he a friend of the McGarrett family or an ally of Wo Fat…?

Read the official press release here:

Tuesday, June 21 — Emmy Award winner Terry O’Quinn (“Lost,” “Alias”) will join the cast of HAWAII FIVE-0 in a recurring role for its second season premiering in September, on the CBS Television Network.  His character will debut in the season’s premiere episode.  O’Quinn’s casting reunites him with fellow “Lost” alumnus, Daniel Dae Kim, on the islands of Hawaii.

O’Quinn will play a Navy Seal Lt. Commander who trained McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) in Coronado, and served with his father in Vietnam. He’s a man with secrets, holding some of the answers to the mysteries surrounding the murder of McGarrett’s parents.

“We are all honored and excited that Emmy Award-winning Terry O’Quinn, has joined our HAWAII FIVE-0 ‘ohana’ (Hawaiian for family),” said Executive Producer Peter Lenkov. “O’Quinn’s character, who we will meet in the premiere, is going to be a major contributor to our team…because he taught McGarrett everything he knows.”

“We’re lucky to have Terry on HAWAII FIVE-0,” said Daniel Dae Kim.  “He’s a great actor who brings a sense of ease and professionalism to every project he works on, and I’m excited to work with him again.

Terry O’Quinn won an Emmy Award for his supporting role in “Lost” in 2007.  His other television credits include “JAG,” on the Network, “The X-Files,” “Alias,” “The West Wing,” “Millenium” and “Harsh Realm.”

Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park and Masi Oka star in HAWAII FIVE-0, a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches.  Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Howzit Officer. This is the best news I’ve heard in ages. Terry just ROCKS! I can not tell you how excited I am about this. I followed Daniel over from LOST and now to have Terry too is just soooooo fantastic. I thought this summer was gonna drag before but now??? September can not get here fast enough.

I would hope that since he’s supposed to have trained Steve and served with John McG he’s gonna fall on Steve’s side but you never know what these writers have in store for us. As those of us who watched LOST for 6 years know Terry can handle anything.

This is gonna be sooooo great!!!

This is such great news; I just love Terry O’Quinn ever since he was on JAG. Such a great actor and this role can be really interesting. We may even learn something more about McG. I doubt that he will be an alley of Wo Fat, I mean come on another SEAL buddy of Steve gone bad? A bit much don’t you think? I think Nick Taylor and the Governor was more than enough betrayal for our Steve. 🙂

Given that he’s introduced in the S2 premiere, odds seem good that he’s involved somehow in getting Steve’s neck out of the double murder noose (which is going to have to take up most of the S2 premiere and some fancy footwork, as it took the bulk of the finale to set Steve up so thoroughly — any other approach to that dire situation would be a disappointment).

It’s gonna be cool to see how Steve behaves when around someone who — though now of the same official rank — was both his superior and instructor when he was undergoing his SEAL training at Coronado; we’ve not really seen Steve interacting with anyone who’s been in a position of authority over him in the Naval hierarchy / chain of command before. If O’Quinn’s guy “taught Steve everything he knows,” it stands to reason he’s someone Steve will hold in very high esteem. (Come to think of it, it’ll be interesting to see how Danny and the team react to seeing Steve falling back into a subordinate-to-superior behavior pattern, even if just briefly).

    S2 is gonna rock! 😀

Heh. About the only casting news I’d be more chuffed about at this point would be Richard Burgi (Jim Ellison, “The Sentinel”; Mack Wolfe, “One West Waikiki”; Karl Mayer, “Desperate Housewives”) landing a recurring or regular role on H50. 🙂 (He plays a real good governor / cop / firefighter / ex-military / goofy cad — just sayin’). 😉

Really excited about this bit of casting news! It’s going to be interesting to meet the man who helped make our Ninja Super SEAL!

  6. Kimmer says:

Loove Terry O’Quinn! I am looking forward to S2 even more now than I was before – can’t wait to see McG’s interaction with SeniorSeal – this will open up more opportunities for the character to develop.
