Hawaii Five-0 stunt work nominated for an Emmy

FromMike Gordon, Honolulupulse.com:

It’s fitting that one of TV’s biggest action shows, “Hawaii Five-0,” should receive an Emmy Award nomination today for stunt coordinator Jeff Cadiente.

The nomination was for the first season’s May 9 episode “Ua Hiki Mai Kapalena Pau,” which saw Danno Williams exposed to a deadly neurological poison.

Cadiente is a true veteran of the business and a member of a closeknit fraternity called Stunts Unlimited. His resume stretches back to the mid-1980s and if you haven’t seen his face, you have probably seen his stunts. He’s been in 93 productions.

He was the stunt coordinator on 79 episodes of the popular Fox series “24” and earned an Emmy nomination in 2006 for his work on the show. In 2010 he was part of a group of stunt performers who won a Screen Actors Guild award for work on “24.”

His movie credits include “Con Air,” “Austin Powers in Goldmember” and “XXX.”

Cadiente’s competition for the Emmy is Paul Jennings for work on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” PeeWee Piemonte for work on TNT’s “Southland,” and Allen Popleton for work on Starz “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.”

Mike Gordon: ‘Five-0 back in action’; Mike interviews Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim

From entertainment reporter extraordinaire Mike Gordon in yesterday’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser:

It was lights, cameras and prayers for the “Hawaii Five-0” ohana as work began on the second season with an early morning blessing Monday.

Everyone gathered on the show’s headquarters set, which had been moved from the downtown post office to the “Five-0” studio at the old Honolulu Advertiser building while the CBS show was on a three-month hiatus. It was so new that people had to wear cloth booties so as not to scuff the freshly painted floor.

Hugs and handshakes were the order of the day as a gallery of news cameras clicked to document the return of the show’s main players: Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. They were joined by series regulars Masi Oka, Taylor Wily and child actor Teilor Grubbs, who plays Danny “Danno” Williams’ daughter on the series.

They shared the spotlight with two men who are just at home in front of the camera as the cast: Gov. Neil Abercrombie and Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle.

Curtis Pa‘alua Kekuna, kahu and senior pastor at Kawaiaha‘o Church, thanked CBS and the “Five-0” team for shooting the popular drama in Hawaii. He asked O’Loughlin and executive producer Peter Lenkov to hold hands while he prayed.

“Father, thank you for what you have already done in the first season of ‘Hawaii Five-0.’ Their success is our success. Their blessing is our blessing,” Kekuna said.

The show’s success can be measured in the lives it touches, the pastor said. “It helps all the people who not only need jobs, but need sustenance,” he said.

After the ceremony the cast went to work — and it wasn’t even 7 a.m. A smiling Park, who opted for bare feet during the ceremony instead of booties, said she was excited.

“It’s good; we’re all here,” she said. “Someone said, ‘Are you ready?’ I said, ‘I don’t know but we’re going to do it.'”

The actress said she spent her time off recharging her emotional batteries. Park said she didn’t think much about the show and had little contact with her fellow stars, aside from text messages from Kim.

“We saw so much of each other that we just really needed to get in our own space again so we could re-collect, because it is so intense when we shoot,” she said. “It’s good to get your mind to rest and then do other things and remind yourself about why you do this, and then come back.”

Kim looked fit and rested from his time off, which included a trip to Europe.

“It’s few and far between when we get days off, so my hiatus was really fantastic,” he said. “But now I’m ready to work and this blessing was fantastic.”

The season one finale, which was finished in mid-April and aired about a month later, left the “Five-0” story line at a chaotic juncture. The episode ended with the governor murdered, “Five-0” disbanded and its leader, Steve McGarrett, under arrest.

So fans naturally have a lot of questions about the second season of one of television’s hottest action shows.

But Kim isn’t giving much away.

“I don’t know much about the season arc,” he said. “The first script is really strong and answers a lot of questions that were left open at the end of season one.”

Those questions won’t be answered until the Sept. 19 season premiere. Fans in Hawaii will get an advance screening of the first episode at a Sunset on the Beach event Sept. 10 in Waikiki.

Read the whole article at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, with more photos and a rundown on the new actors: Terry O’Quinn, Tom Sizemore and Richard T. Jones.

A new character for Five-0; and where’s LT Rollins?

From Matt Webb Mitovich, tvline.com:

The Hawaii Five-0 team will be saying “Aloha” to a new member — and McGarrett a possible new love interest — with the addition of Happy Town alumna Lauren German to the CBS drama’s cast.

German, TVLine has learned exclusively, is boarding the sophomore thrill ride in the series regular role of a smart and beautiful former Homeland Security officer who has been hand-picked by the new Governor (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicless Richard T. Jones) to join the Five-0 task force.

Forced into McGarrett’s elite ensemble, German’s character will not just help them fight crime, but also keep them in check on behalf of the Gov. And, as hinted above, she is poised to also serve as a potential love interest for Alex O’Loughlin’s McGarrett.

German is the latest add-on for Five-0‘s sophomore run (premiering Sept. 19), joining Jones, Lost‘s Terry O’Quinn (as McGarrett’s Navy SEAL trainer), and film vet Tom Sizemore (playing a pesky Internal Affairs agent).

What?!?!!? Where’s Lieutenant Catherine Rollins?!?!  Did she and McGarrett break up?  Did her carrier deploy to the Persian Gulf (“When the cat’s away…”).  Did she meet an untimely demise?  What are the writers up to…?

Daniel and Grace talk to Mike Gordon about season 2; Peter’s teasers

From the Honolulu Star Advertiser (new photos here as well):

Daniel Dae Kim, who stars as Chin Ho Kelly, said that [finale] episode was a sign of exciting things to come.

“I thought it was a really good episode,” he said. “I thought there were a lot of surprises. I thought there were some great character moments.”

So what’s next? Kim doesn’t know much about the second season story arc but feels fans will be satisfied.

“The first script is really strong and answers a lot of questions that were left open at the end of season one,” he said.

Grace Park said the show’s writers will deliver.

“That’s what’s so amazing about this job,” she said. “Everyone gets to focus on what they do so they can do it well.”

Also, Peter teased on twitter a couple of photos… of a shackled man in an orange jumpsuit, and an over the shoulder shot of someone who seems to be Lieutenant Commander White…  Check out the Facebook page for the photos.

Hawaii Five-0 season 2 – blessing and filming this morning!

From Hawaii News Now:

Honolulu (HawaiiNewsNow) – Today begins the official start of shooting for season 2. We are inside the sound stage, which has been set up here. You see the crew is hard at work behind the scenes getting everything ready so when the stars do arrive here on set, they are ready to go. We know there are a lot of loose ends that they left for us at the end of season 1. So the shooting is going to be fast and furious here today.

Of course they have been off for a little while, so they’ll get back up to speed. The crew has been working about a month getting their home here ready and I hear the stars are on the way here, so they’re going to be right in to season 2 of shooting. So right now we’re going to try to get out more, find a little bit more information about the season 2.

Tannya Joaquin got great sound bites from the cast:

Scott Caan regarding Danno’s happiness:  “I think if I’m happy there’s nothing for me to do, so they’re going to keep me unhappy.”

Alex O’Loughlin on “his type of woman”: [paraphrased] “She would have to have teeth for starters, and be in the age range between 18-65…”

Alex also let loose he and his dog are recently moved into a house that he recently bought.

These guys were joking it up on the first day of filming, with a blessing in the morning and part of a scene filmed before Tannya’s interview.

Look for the video clips later today on the 50undercover.com blog!

Update:  At first I heard the name “Rusty” for his dog, then was informed his dog’s name’s Reggie, but listening to the interview again, it sounds like Alex said “Dusty”.
